Efficacy of E-Consult to Cure Hepatitis C in Primary Care

We are pleased to feature Jacey Nishiguchi, Pharm.D., presenting a recent study by UC San Francisco providers outlining e-consult’s impact in expanding care to a largely homeless and low-income population. The study demonstrated that over a 31 month program, 242 patients were treated using e-consult who may not have otherwise been treated.

Honoring Black History Month 2022

The 2022 Black History Month theme, Black Health and Wellness, pays homage to medical scholars and health care providers. The theme is especially timely as we enter the third year of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has disproportionately affected communities of color and placed unique burdens on Black health care professionals. Learn more about this year’s Black History Month focus here. The E-Consult Workgroup strives to improve access to care with a focus on equity. What is your organization doing to promote black health and wellness using e-consult? Submit your programs to us at econsultworkgroup@bluepathhealth.com and we will highlight them on our website.

Highlights from a Targeted E-Consult Program

Targeted automatic e-consults (TACos) address the challenges of traditional specialty consults by prospectively identifying patients using the electronic health record and presenting pertinent information on a dashboard, enabling consultants to provide a virtual consult with written recommendations. The TACo model may improve value by facilitating more expert input without a proportional increase in cost. This UCSF study highlights the importance of billing codes supporting provider reimbursement to achieve sustainability of an e-consult program.

The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS)  has announced a $230 million General Fund for the Behavioral Health Services and Supports Platform and related e-Consult service and provider training.
