March Events

Honoring Women's History Month 2022

In March, the Central Valley E-Consult Coalition (CVEC) is honoring Women’s History Month with a focus on telehealth to improve access to women’s health care. Recent studies demonstrate the efficacy of e-consult and telehealth to address women’s health needs. The article, Women’s Health and the Era After COVID-19, shares examples of how women’s health delivery and medical education were supported through telehealth throughout the pandemic.

In the post-COVID era, telehealth can continue to serve patients, “particularly those already experiencing structural, societal, economic and health inequities.” The article also states that “Equitable reimbursement and coverage are necessary to scale-up ob-gyn’s telehealth use for essential health services, such as prenatal and postpartum physical and mental health services.”

Announcing Valley Children's E-Consult for Pediatrics

The CVEC is pleased to announce that Valley Children’s Hospital is participating in e-consult to improve access to specialty care for Central Valley pediatric patients. We applaud that Valley Children's Hospital (VCH) in leading the way as the first hospital in the Central Valley to engage its specialists in our program, responding to e-consults for cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, infectious disease, and neurology.

Dr. John Kinnison, VCH Medical Director and Hospitalist, shared, "The Central Valley is facing a specialist shortage. E-consult allows our specialists to provide more expeditious access to care to pediatric patients, while preventing parents and their children from having to travel and take time off work and school for visits that may not be necessary."

Steve Cade Director of Valley Children’s Hospital and ChildNet (PMO) stated “Valley Children’s is pleased to be able to offer e-Consults from pediatric specialty physicians based right here in the Central Valley." Mr. Cade also emphasized, “Providing an efficient way for children to receive the care they need from their primary care physician, who in turn has access to pediatric specialist support is a real advantage to families.”

Free CME on E-Consult Best Practices for Pediatric Cases

The Central Valley E-Consult Coalition gathers participants on monthly webinars to share e-consult best practices, use cases, communications materials, and important program updates. In addition, the CVEC seeks to support primary care teams through continuing medical education (CME) in e-consult. April 22 12-1 pm PT , we will offer a session on Best Practices in E-Consult for Pediatric Cases open to all interested stakeholders. Eligible attendees who register can receive CME for this session. Valley Children’s and ConferMed clinicians will share examples of how providers are utilizing e-consult to optimize specialty care for pediatric patients.
