Join us for the December E-Consult Workgroup Webinar

This month’s webinar will feature Muhammad T. Malik, MD, Geisinger Health, sharing his publication, Implementation and Follow-up Experience of an e-Consult Program in a Rural Neurology Setting. In this study, clinicians  noted that e-consult provides an interface between PCPs and neurology specialists and can assist in determining whether a patient needs to be seen urgently in the clinic, the correct subspecialty, and prerequisite diagnostic tests. (E-consult) was successfully implemented and used in our rural neurology setting, with rapid turnaround, increased usage, and accuracy. In addition, we will discuss Workgroup priorities and our policy roadmap for 2022.

Survey - E-Consult Workgroup Member Needs

During our December 14 webinar we will present the results of a survey on Workgroup member needs for 2022. Where would you like to see the Workgroup focus its efforts? You can still share your thoughts on Workgroup priorities and activities in the coming year in our brief survey. Initial responses are summarized here.

New Research on Access to ID Specialists - E-Consult in Response to COVID-19

The November publication, Characteristics and Outcomes of Infectious Diseases Electronic COVID-19 Consultations at a Multisite Academic Health System highlights e-consult’s utility in providing clinicians access to Infectious Diseases (ID) consultants for clinical decision-making support in response to COVID-19. Throughout the pandemic, traditional face-to-face ID consultations patient assessments have not always been possible or practical, and involve added exposure risk and personal protective equipment (PPE) use. Electronic consultations (e-consults) may provide an alternative and improve access to ID specialists during the pandemic, providing safe and timely access, minimizing the risk of infection to the patient and health care workers, and preserving PPE and testing supplies.
